Rainbow's End
in the Bluegrass
~~Where dreams really DO come true!
Rainbow's End in the Bluegrass was founded in 2003, the brainchild of Karen Zamora. She saw a need in
our community for a venue to support and aid children with psychological and emotional difficulties. Joining
forces with Terri Parker, they were able to secure a short- term lease from the city of Georgetown, KY, for
the property known as the Bradshaw farm. Opening in 2004, with borrowed horses, we served our first
summer campers. In addition to the summer camps, Rainbow's End offered an after school program for the
years 2004 and 2005. Group and private lessons were also added in 2005, as our vision enlarged to include
ALL of the children of Georgetown, not just those needing special support.
Sadly, the city decided to sell the Bradshaw farm in 2006. Although Rainbow's End placed a bid on the
property, ours was not the highest, and we were forced to relocate in the fall of 2007. An offer of the Jim
Lewis farm (in Georgetown) was made to us, which was accepted. Horses and equipment were moved
there, and it was subsequently discovered that the site was contaminated with petroleum by-products from
a refinery that had been on the site at the turn of the century! Chevron was cited by the EPA as
responsible for the contamination, and initially offered Rainbow's End a "resettlement" compensation, but
later rescinded the offer. We were forced to move horses again, finding temporary space for them at a
friend's farm.
In March, 2009, Karen Zamora was blessed with meeting the Strunk family, who generously offered us a
lease on the beautiful Stone Rd. site we now call "home". Although things were a little less than perfect for
the summer camps of 2008, we were able to successfully serve our new and returning students! As anyone
who has ever lived on a farm knows, it is always a "work in progress", and Rainbow's End is no different.
An enclosed classroom has been added, and we're currently working on making the barn a little more
weatherproof (as time and finances permit).
